WHAT ARE FAMILY & BUSINESS SPONSORSHIPS?

  • Family Sponsorships ($125). Families can put their name or a message to their children on the back of the Walk-A-Thon T-shirt (limited to 35 characters, no emojis). Not sure what to write? Some ideas from past shirts:

  • Business Sponsorships ($300). A business can add its name AND a logo (JPEG or PNG required) to the Walk-a-thon shirt and a vinyl banner thanking all Walk-a-thon sponsors.  The banner will hang on the school playground fence throughout the school year.  The company’s logo will also be featured on the Hawthorne Scholastic Academy PTA website and in PTA email communications.

HSA WALK-A-THON 2023

Thursday, October 12 (rain date: 10/13)


Thanks again to all who supported this year's Walk-a-thon!  We raised nearly $44,000! These funds are vital to maintaining small class sizes, supporting the Arts Partnership program, making fun community gatherings possible, and so much more. A sincere thank you for your generosity!


Our school walked approximately 5170 laps for 726 miles!


Most laps walked per grade band will win an extra PE class:
1st grade with 643 - 90 miles!
3rd grade with 694 - 97 miles!
6th grade with 668 - 94 miles!


WHAT IS WALK-A-THON?

The HSA Walk-A-Thon is Hawthorne’s annual fall fundraiser and community-building event. It's a fun-filled day where HSA students run/walk for a good cause: to raise money for our school while promoting a healthy lifestyle! 

HOW DOES THE WALK-A-THON WORK?
Leading up to the event, students are encouraged to ask friends, family, neighbors and more to sponsor them by donating money to support the Hawthorne Walk-A-Thon. Parents can help too: posting event details on social media and asking employers to match Walk-A-Thon contributions are two great options!


The day kicks off with a school-wide pep rally on the turf; families are welcome to attend! Each classroom dresses in a fun theme/costume they've chosen before the event. Throughout the day each class takes turns running (or walking) laps around the turf for about 30-45 minutes at set times. Total laps are tracked, with the goal to walk/run as many laps as possible! ​

ARE THERE STUDENT PRIZES?
Yes! If we meet our $40,000 goal, every student will receive a thank you snack from the PTA one day in November. In addition: ​

  • Student Lottery: ​For a donation of any amount, your student's name will be entered into a lottery with the chance to win prizes! Each student can only be entered one time, but their name will stay in each of the drawings. The earlier you enter the better your chances are of winning!
  • Most Laps per Grade Band: The grade that runs the most laps in each band (K-2; 3-5; 6-8) will receive an extra gym class!


HOW DO I DONATE?

  • Online pledge platform: Log on to the RallyUp Walk-a-Thon website when it goes live and search for a student’s web page. The online platform lets students track their success!
  • Sponsorships: Make a Family or Business donation (see details below)
  • ​Cash/Check: Donate any amount by cash or check (made out to Hawthorne Scholastic Academy PTA) and drop off at the student's homeroom or the main office.


WHERE DO FUNDRAISING DOLLARS GO?

The money raised from Walk-A-Thon allows the PTA to continue bridging the monetary gap of decreased funding to support things like reduced class sizes, our Arts Partnership Program and many more student essentials. 


WHAT ABOUT THE WALK-A-THON TEE?

After the event, every HSA student, teacher and staff member receives a Hawthorne Walk-A-Thon T-shirt as a thank you for participating. Shirts are printed and sent home with students before winter break. Families can purchase a Family Sponsorship (see below) to add a message for their student to the back of the shirt! ​
