After School

For Hawthorne students, the learning does not stop when the bell rings at the end of the school day.

Many after school activites and classes are offered to enhance and further the students' mental and physical development.

The Hawthorne Hurricanes compete in a range of athletics including Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and Flag Football. See our Sports page for more information.

In addition, numerous other competitive activities such as Chess, Math Olympiads, Math Counts, History Fair, Speech, Essay and Academic Bowl are offered. Plus Chorus, Band and Glee Club.

Hawthorne teachers also offer varied classes through the federally-funded program "After-School All-Stars". These are curriculum-based classes which are developed and taught by Hawthorne teachers, and offered free of charge to any Hawthorne student in grades 1-8. These classes begin in October and run for 20 weeks.

In addition to those free classes, Hawthorne also partners with local businesses to provide tuition-based classes. These classes are held in 8-10 week sessions 3 times per year. See our after-school classes page for more information about the tuition based programs.
